In order to implement the principles of “public plant protection and green plant protection,” uphold the Scientific Outlook on Development, further reduce the use of chemical pesticides, protect the ecological environment, promote the sustainable management of crop pests and diseases, and ensure increased agricultural efficiency, higher farmer incomes, and the quality and safety of agricultural products, the National Agricultural Technology Extension Center has, in accordance with its work plan, initiated research and application of green pest-control technologies for vegetables, fruit trees, and rice. Solar-powered insecticidal lamps require no investment in electrical infrastructure, and their photovoltaic modules have been fully accepted by farmers. Zhejiang Longhao Agricultural and Forestry Technology Co., Ltd. has taken the lead among insecticidal-lamp manufacturers nationwide in developing solar-powered models. Leveraging the robust R&D capabilities of the Institute of Electric Light Sources at Fudan University, the company has produced the Tiandebao series of fully automatic, multi-purpose, solar-powered insecticidal lamps. These lamps have stood the test of the rainy and typhoon-prone seasons in southern China, offering long service life, energy savings, and environmental friendliness. In addition to insect control, they can also serve as lighting devices, with overall costs significantly lower than those of conventional insecticidal lamps.

I. Operating Principle
The Tiandi Baopai fully automatic solar-powered multi-purpose insecticidal lamp uses a photovoltaic panel on the lamp’s top to convert solar energy into electricity during the day, which is then stored in a lead-acid battery. Depending on the power rating, one to ten such lamps can be connected in parallel.
II. Usage Costs and Benefits
The Tiandibao fully automatic solar-powered multi-purpose insecticidal device boasts an adjustable coverage area that can be expanded to match crop growth. Based on an average cost of RMB 6,000–50,000 per unit, the area covered by each Tiandibao solar-powered insecticidal lamp is greater than the area treated with a single application of chemical pesticide, making it particularly well suited for pest control in vegetable fields, orchards, forested areas, wheat fields, rice paddies, urban parks, green belts, and lawns. Currently, the Tiandibao fully automatic solar-powered multi-purpose insecticidal lamp serves three primary functions: first, it effectively kills and lures pest insects; second, it collects the captured pests for use as feed for chickens or fish; and third, when not in use, it can double as a solar-powered courtyard light. The device is equipped with built-in features for wind resistance, lightning protection, rainproofing, and anti-theft security. Its on/off timing is automatically controlled via a timer. For optimal performance in agricultural settings, the lamps should be arranged in contiguous, grid-like patterns, with spacing calculated at twice the effective killing radius of each unit. Additionally, the Tiandibao fully automatic solar-powered multi-purpose insecticidal lamp should be installed at least 50 centimeters above the vegetation canopy, and in vegetable fields, at least 1.5 meters above ground level. For lighting purposes, the mounting height can be adjusted as needed; in adverse weather conditions, the units can be quickly retracted and stored. Moreover, the electric shock grid incorporates an automatic cleaning function, ensuring hassle-free removal of dead insects.
The Tiandi Bao fully automatic solar-powered multi-purpose insecticidal lamp has been widely adopted in agriculture, forestry, vegetable production, tobacco cultivation, grain storage, liquor brewing, landscape gardening, orchards, urban green spaces, lighting for community hotels, and aquaculture—particularly demonstrating remarkable efficacy in controlling pests in vegetable fields and cotton-growing regions. It effectively attracts and kills a wide range of agricultural, forestry, fruit-tree, and vegetable pests, including over 1,200 species such as the cotton bollworm, Japanese beetle, cutworm, corn borer, fruit-sucking noctuid moth, beet armyworm, striped armyworm, pine caterpillar, gypsy moth, longhorn beetle, and many others. Observations show that during summer, each lamp can attract and kill several thousand pest individuals per day, with peak numbers sometimes exceeding ten thousand. The lamp reduces the number of eggs laid by pests in the field by approximately 70%. Its effectiveness in trapping and killing adult insects is especially pronounced: by directly luring and eliminating pests at the adult stage, the Tiandi Bao fully automatic solar-powered multi-purpose insecticidal lamp significantly enhances control efficacy, decreases the frequency of chemical pesticide applications, and helps prevent the development of pesticide resistance in pest populations.
Reducing environmental pollution and lowering pesticide use and residues. The Tianlibao fully automatic solar-powered multi-purpose insecticidal lamp employs physical methods to attract and kill pests, enabling crops to require 2–3 fewer pesticide applications. This directly reduces pesticide usage, lowers pesticide residues, enhances the quality of agricultural products, minimizes environmental pollution, and helps prevent poisoning incidents in humans and livestock. It is well suited for the production of pollution-free agricultural products, effectively eliminating pests before they can damage crops, thereby delivering significant ecological and social benefits.
When a Tianlibao brand fully automatic solar-powered multi-purpose insecticidal lamp is installed over ponds adjacent to orchards or farmlands, it helps establish a healthy ecological chain: the lamp traps and kills pests; the pests serve as feed for fish; fish excrement fertilizes the water; and the nutrient-rich water is then used to irrigate orchards and vegetable fields. This approach reduces production and farming costs while improving the ecological environment. Moreover, the captured pests can be processed into high-quality feed for poultry and fish, supporting eco-friendly aquaculture and turning waste into valuable resources, thereby delivering significant economic, ecological, and social benefits. The Tianlibao brand fully automatic solar-powered multi-purpose insecticidal lamp is a highly promising physical pest-control tool that makes efficient use of solar energy to both attract and kill agricultural pests and provide lighting, thus reducing pesticide application, minimizing pesticide contamination of crops, soil, and water sources, and lowering farmers’ cultivation costs.
