On February 22, 2011, the Shanghai Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center, in collaboration with the Fengxian District Agricultural Commission, convened an on-site training session on the application of vegetable plant protection machinery. The event was attended by Chen Deming, Director of the Vegetable Office of the Shanghai Municipal Agriculture Commission; Chief Gan from the Municipal Agricultural Machinery Extension Station; representatives from Shanghai Xufeng Trading Co., Ltd.; sales representatives from several agricultural machinery manufacturers; as well as directors and relevant officials from vegetable stations (or sections) across various districts and counties. The meeting was chaired by Ding Guoqiang, Head of the Plant Protection Section of the Municipal Agricultural Technology Center.

The meeting began with a live demonstration of crop protection machinery. Each manufacturer highlighted and showcased sprayers specifically designed for protected cultivation, emphasizing the gradual replacement of traditional manual equipment with advanced, user-friendly electric models. Witnessing the outstanding spraying performance of these cutting-edge machines, attendees eagerly took photos, asked questions, and sought detailed information, creating a highly enthusiastic atmosphere on site.

The next item on the agenda was presentations by representatives from various manufacturers, who used PowerPoint to introduce their respective products and engaged in discussions with vegetable pest-control officers from each district and county. Mr. Lü Laofu, a senior engineer at Zhejiang Longhao Agricultural and Forestry Technology Co., Ltd., showcased a frequency-vibration solar-powered insecticidal lamp, which saves energy, employs physical pest control, reduces pesticide use, is environmentally friendly, and can even be integrated with aquaculture to boost both yield and income. Mr. Li Fei, Manager of Shandong Weishi Plant Protection Machinery Co., Ltd., highlighted the company’s new WS-25DT backpack (hand-pull) electric sprayer, noting its excellent atomization, high operational efficiency, and wheel-mounted chassis for comfortable and convenient use. Mr. Cao Shoumin, Manager of Shandong Huasheng Agricultural Machinery Co., Ltd., provided an overview of the company and recommended two pressure-type spray-and-dust machines: the 3WZ-6 and the 3WF-950. The 3HH-36SD model from Huahui Power Machinery (Nantong) Co., Ltd. drew widespread attention, as its 150-liter chemical tank enables a single fill to cover spraying operations in approximately ten greenhouses. Following this, Mr. Yuan from Shanghai Xufeng Trading Co., Ltd. briefly introduced the product lines of Taizhou Xinyi Agricultural Machinery Co., Ltd. and Luxiong Machinery (Zhejiang) Co., Ltd., and offered recommendations on this year’s procurement and subsidy program for plant-protection machinery, urging all parties to collaborate wholeheartedly to ensure the smooth implementation of the subsidy initiative.

The director put forward two requirements for the current mechanization of vegetable production: first, to vigorously promote the adoption of agricultural machinery that is suitable, efficient, and cost-effective; and second, to allocate farm machinery in a scientific and rational manner to reduce pollution and enhance the efficacy of pesticide application. The meeting noted that, given the relatively recent start of pesticide-application-equipment initiatives within the plant protection sector and the past lack of emphasis on this area, coupled with the trend toward larger-scale production and labor shortages, such training sessions and on-site demonstrations are highly necessary—and indeed essential for advancing professional, unified pest management. The meeting also urged plant protection agencies at all levels to effectively publicize policies on agricultural-technology subsidies so as to meet production needs to the greatest extent possible, while prioritizing the selection of standardized, centralized categories of machinery and gradually adding to the official catalog those models that are most advanced, practical, and widely favored by farmers.
